American Shorthair – the pattern master

American Shorthair cats are intelligent and curious. They love watching birds through the window and are famous for their daily bouts of „goofiness". For breeders, the draw is the huge richness of coat colors and patterns.

The breed in the real world

Their ancestors arrived in America on settlers’ ships as working cats. The breed was registered by the CFA in 1906 and received its current name in 1965.

FAQ

What tabby patterns are in the game?

Four: classic, mackerel, spotted and ticked, each 25% likely in the wild population. Combined with silver and cameo shaded coats, the breed offers the widest pattern variety in Catmaster.

What are shaded coats?

Silver and cameo shaded coats appear when a cat carries the dominant inhibitor gene, which suppresses pigment in part of each hair – a mechanic modeled on real cat genetics.
